Lighting up rural roads at night – Solar lighting project in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula

Remote villages on the Yucatan Peninsula suffer from poor electricity supply and have long faced the problem of no lighting at night.

The project installed integrated solar streetlights, with a row of them standing neatly along the main rural road. The soft, even light covers the road, green belts, and residences, ensuring safe travel at night. The streetlights integrate LED light sources, high-efficiency solar panels, and lithium batteries, enabling completely off-grid operation. The lights have an IP65 protection rating, are adaptable to high-temperature and high-humidity environments, and their power generation efficiency has been increased by 12% after angle optimization.

Since its implementation, the roads have been stably illuminated at night, with remarkable results: improving the safety of villagers traveling at night, enhancing students’ learning and activity conditions, promoting local small businesses and community vitality, and gaining widespread recognition from residents.

This project provides a sustainable, low-maintenance lighting solution for rural areas with insufficient grid coverage.
